fuel Efficient future cars.

16 Sweet Used Fuel Sippers

With this articles I am going to start category – Cars. I will write one article everyday or so. All car-lovers can find useful assorted information here on my blog. So all car-crazy ppl, stay tuned and be updated every day. Here goes the PILOT Blog. [:P]

Money-tight car buyers looking to save money on gas are turning to fuel-efficient used models. Consumer Reports says these are good bets.

2000 Honda Insight

Hond.jpg

MPG: 51

Estimated cost: $4,760 – $6,350

Consumer Reports selected these cars with very specific criteria in mind: None are more than 10 years old, and the decision was based entirely on fuel economy and reliability.

That doesn’t mean they’re all dream cars though.

The ultra-thrifty two-seat insight gets the best mileage of any car on this list. And Consumer Reports applauds its reliability. But the magazine does note some serious downsides.

“The interior is cramped, noisy, and uncomfortable, and the ride is hard. Among hybrids, both the Toyota Prius and the Honda Civic Hybrid are better cars,” Consumer Reports’ Web site notes.

2004 – ‘06 Toyota Prius

MPG: 44

Estimated cost: $15,000 – $20,775

The second-generation Prius can be much more expensive used bet than the older version, but it boasts a number of improvements.

“2004 brought a second-generation hatchback model with better mileage, less-touchy brakes, and more interior room,” the magazine writes on its Web site.

2001 – ‘03 Toyota Prius

MPG: 41

Estimated cost: $6,700 – $13,225

The first-generation Prius lacks the hatchback styling of the later version. Consumer Reports notes that “the cabin feels roomy inside, but the battery pack robs trunk space.”

A 2005 redesign also improved brakes that the magazine called “touchy.”

2000 – ‘05 Toyota Echo

Toyecho.jpg

MPG: 38

Estimated cost: $3,260 – $10,325

Consumer Reports was impressed with this predecessor to the Toyota Yaris.

“It provided sprightly acceleration, easy access, and a roomy rear seat. Handling was sound, and the ride was reasonably quiet and comfortable,” the magazine writes on its Web site.

2003 Honda Civic Hybrid

MPG: 37

Estimated cost: N/A

Pricing for this version of the Civic isn’t available because Consumer Reports doesn’t break out the hybrid version separately from the non-hybrid Civic.

“It has good crash-test results, handles well, and has outstanding reliability,” the magazine notes on its Web site.

2006 Honda Civic Hybrid/EX

MPG: 37/31

Estimated cost: $12,270 – $20,350

2006 was the fist model year for the Civic’s new cutting-edge look.

Consumer Reports points out the latest version’s quiet, roomy interior and improved ride quality.

2007 Honda Fit Sport (manual)

MPG: 34

Estimated cost: N/A

The Fit is a recently introduced model, so Consumer Reports doesn’t yet have pricing for it as a used car.

The magazine compliments the Fit for its roomy and versatile interior, however.

“While not overly powerful, the Fit feels responsive, with a smooth and willing engine and agile handling,” the magazine’s Web site also says.

2007 Toyota Yaris Liftback and Sedan

yar.jpg

MPG: 34/33

Estimated cost: N/A

Generally speaking, Consumer Reports is not enthusiastic about the Yaris, but it is very reliable and fuel-efficient. The magazine’s test drivers complain of poor emergency handling, a noisy passenger compartment and long braking distances when not equipped with anti-lock brakes.

Consumer Reports doesn’t recommend the hatchback version (the “Liftback” is shown here) because it performed too poorly on its emergency handling tests.

Used pricing for this vehicle is not yet available.

1998 – 2002 Chevrolet Prizm

MPG: 32

Estimated cost: $2,475 – $2,475

The Prizm was basically a California-built Toyota Corolla with a Chevy bow-tie. Because of the Chevrolet brand, resale values for these cars deteriorated faster than Corollas’, but that’s good news for buyers.

Versions after the 1998 model year have improved suspension for better emergency handling, Consumer Reports notes.

“The Prizm’s exemplary reliability record is a major advantage,” the magazine’s Web site says, “but the interior isn’t as well trimmed as the Corolla’s.”

1998 Mazda Protege LX

MPG: 32

Estimated cost: $1,690 – $3,925

The LX has a 1.5-liter engine making it less powerful – but less thirsty – than the EX version with its slightly larger engine.

1998 – 2000 Toyota Corolla CE/LE

MPG: 32/31

Estimated cost: $2,245 – $5,900

The compact Corolla is Toyota’s most popular model worldwide. It’s proven to be very reliable. Models after 1999 share the suspension improvements with the closely related Chevrolet Prizm.

1991 – 2001 Acura Integra

MPG: 32

Estimated cost: $3,255 – $14,700

The Integra, from Honda’s Acura luxury division, “has been consistently named as one of the best used cars based on CR testing and our reliability survey,” the magazine’s Web site notes.

2005 – ‘06 Scion xB (manual/auto)

MPG: 32/30

Estimated cost: $8,250 – $14,175

“Its good visibility and compact dimensions make the xB a great city car,” Consumer Reports says.

For longer trips, drivers will find the early xB a noisy and twitchy car to drive, the magazine’s Web site says.

2004 – ‘05 Scion xA (auto/manual)

scionxa.jpg

MPG: 31/30

Estimated cost: $7,725 – $11,200

The xA was a precursor to today’s Scion xD. It’s smaller than the even boxier xB.

“The high levels of wind noise and the choppy ride make the xA fatiguing on a long drive,” Consumer Reports writes on its Web site.

2004 – ‘07 Mazda3 (manual)

MPG: 30

Estimated cost: $10,085 – $20,025

The Mazda3 is a fun-to-drive successor to the Protege. Buyers should be careful to check the equipment list for optional side curtain airbags, Consumer Reports’ Web site notes.

“Without them the Mazda3 received a Poor rating in the [Insurance Institute for Highway Safety] side-crash test,” ConsumerReports.org says.

2006 Mini Cooper (manual)

MPG: 30

Estimated cost: $16,660 – $24,7500

The retro-cool Mini Cooper is also a fuel economy gem. Unfortunately for interested buyers, it also holds its value very well, making it pricey for a used compact car.

True Ghost Encounters by my father-1

This series includes weird and ghostly encounters my father seemed to have sometimes ago ( in fact some of them are when he was a teenager). I am writing them down as my father told me. Authenticity of these claims can never be judged and I am writing them down purely for those who either want to read experiences or believe in ghosts and spirits.  Here goes the first of this series.

First encounter he had was when he was a 9th class student . My grandfather was building a new home at a very notorious location. There were already stories of ghostly experiences around that vicinity and there was a big Banyan tree just in-front of our home which was being constructed. The roof had not been laid yet. There were few acts of murder and suicide at that location. My father used to assist in construction work and sleep in that house alone.  One night he was sleeping on his small one -man cot. At the time of midnight, he realized uneasy on his bed, like someone else was there too. He woke up and saw what it was and he saw a figure, not tall but sturdy and strongly built, sitting on the cot at his leg-side. My father’s sisters were newly married then and the figure was almost like his sister-in-law type. My father thought that its his sister-in-law (it was dark and his face was not visible) who came late but out of hesitation, did not wake him up. He called that figure-” Jeejaji!! ( Jeejaji- Hindi word for sister-in-law).” The figure did not reply. My father started moving out of his bed and so did the figure who now has started towards the door. My father kept asking him but he swiftly moved out of the gate. My father followed him and this figure circled the Banyan tree and disappeared. My father kept searching around the tree but dint find any trace of him. He still had no thoughts of ghosts or spirit or any such thing. So he came back and slept.

Next day same thing happened but this time my father found him sleeping with him on the cot . He again followed him to the Banyan tree and again he got disappeared. This time horror struck my father and he rushed to his old house and narrated the incident to my grandfather. My grandpa made my father at ease and asked him to sleep with my grandmother. My father did not sleep alone for next 6 months. That figure never appeared again.

So this was one of the mysterious incidents, that happened with my father.

Give me your response, accordingly I will publish next experiences.

Its just weird..

No matter how much rational you try to be , your rationality is squarely related to your company and somehow I am feeling increasingly difficult to cope up with the expectations of my contrasted friends. Its just that I realize at the end of the day that friends are the most precious things and they need to be treasured and i start putting extra efforts to make sure they do feel treasured and things just get worse. I don’t know how my each and every efforts make me believe that I am just making things worse. Oh God! what incredible 4 years these have been!! Help me manage these remaining 2 months.

Am I really good at ‘it’??

“I dont think you are an expert”- confident, its unusual,Chandan said.

I paused for a moment and replied defensively-”well! one failure and you cant undermine for that.” I said that and my mind suddenly slipped into some reflection.

Am I really good at holding relationships. Am I at-all good at relationships. I never realized even Chandan can make me feel low over the subject. Well, given the circumstances I shouldn’t mind it much and offcourse if I say I am good at impressing girls and make them admit it before me, proud it might look but certainly not overconfidence.

But think Gaurav again fully to this whole relationship thingy with women. Women, they are like universal phenomenas,If you look at them profoundly all converging to same ubiquitous state of mind finally but surfacially they seem to folllow different equations and driven by different forces like physics seems to driven by  gravity, EMI, N forces. They are like perfect example of Heisenberg’s uncertainty principal at small level. But macroscopically they are all the same. They want to be appreciated for their physical attractiveness, they want their boys to say it again and again that they are the most beautiful on the earth no matter if their boyfriend feel gum on their tongues to say the pathetically horrible lie. All women fancy biggies. Who cares about science’s vague sympathetic  arguments in favor of “Tiny’s” afterall science is a biggest victim of weakest sex ratio.

All of them want their guys to say it on his knees. They want guys on their knees, forget about the romance of words. Guys !They don’t hear what romantic parodies you chant for her during those moments, they look at your knees folded in front of her as if saying-” yes we are crippled and at your mercy my lord”. I don’t know why,we, men desire so much to fall ourselves in the HOLE.

anyways I was thinking about myself. I am handsome, smart, devil and a MAN. Nearly perfect to get a catch of woman’s eye at first sight. But can I really sustain a relationship longer with a girl. You know, I mean each time I have a go with a new girl, after initial attraction of her towards me, my devil comes out.

” Gaurav , call me yar tomorrow.”

“k.”

and next day I will be struggling with my ego to dial her numbers and finally ramming my mobile to my drawer unless the girl calls me ..’if she calls’. Now if she calls instead of me calling, I hate to hear the first most obvious sentence from a ‘holy’ mouth. ” aur batao kya chal raha hai ” When a boy is talking to a girl hot what else can it be…SEX, SEX, bloody SEX.

But I resist to say such a daring thing in Indian context. Afterall very few watch coupling in India. “Nothing”  safe but not an interesting reply. ” So what do you do” ..

“Nothing” ..my mind keep screaming ..’ cant you ask about more uncertain things like when are we having a date”

” You must be a student” …bloody hell!! what else you expect from a 19 years old Indian guy.

“So what are your hobbies?”

<Sex, girls, boobs, Bjs, arses (thanks!! you Bloody British Bibra), gussets, blondes> ” eh..cricket, movies, tennis, cycling, travelling, bikes”

“wow. I like it. Quite an active boy you are!”

Bloody hell!! no Bloody arse!! < you have no clue baby>

” so what else is new?”

and my patience wears out.

“do you have a boyfriend?”

without waiting for her reply I would choose covers .

” I mean you know may be some history…generally asking if you dont mind.”

” Oh no I hate such idiotic things like bf-gfs. I dont believe in it . Do ya?”

Hell! ..if you are not interested than why the hell on a dating site and why interest in my history.

” oh! ok. But why are you so averse  of …you know bf-gf thing. I mean ..”

” Oh I am not against love marriage..If I find a right guy I would certainly be with him”

finally she is coming on line..

” would you mind if I give it a try. since you said you liked me and  liked you too. “

” Oh no honey. Don’t even think about that.  We are just friends. I mean you are nice guy but ..by the way are you virgin”?

Do you have to confirm the virginity of the guy whom you just consider friends??

“off course. I am . what do you think. I am purely virgin”

“(chucles) thats funny. What do you mean by pure virgin. Virgin means virgin. Whats a pure and impure virgin.”

” I mean no girl ever kissed me yet, not even cheeks. “

( TO BE CONTD….)

Its all about dreams….

Dreams…aren’t they beautiful..beacons of light which call us and drives which make our life worth living…

My dad and I had quite a discussion over the name of our tiny little house. And surprisingly dad’s and my mind was lingering on the same lines. I said -” Hows Dreams Unlimited”?? Papa said-” I know its SRK- Juhi’s production name but its too Angreji “. Amusingly papa had a point. If we put this name and send the invitation for “Grih Pravesh” to our relatives naming dreams unlimited, our nearly illitereate relative’s community will gasp for air and inquire for well being of us sending inquiries about it. Though papa is only 11th cupped 10th passed student but his smartness (I still wonder papa was born in our family) and unprecedented willingness to dream about the world which was beyond one’s speculation in kind of family he was born in, made him quite a happening papa. Mind you dad is all young and handsome to talk about sexy Urmila Matondkar, hot and hyped Nandita Das and Ramgopal Verma’s sex spiced up matinees.

oopssss topic got a lot deviated. Afterall papa its my turn to dream and its my blog offcourse. Sorry aapki tarif agle blogs me…abhi me kuch shekhi baghar loo.

Ok, things were not all beautiful at my beginning as well, or they were?? yeah a lot better but materliastic world was miles away then.

Me and my cousin broter Neetu, I was in 2nd and he was in 1st then, used to sit on our rooftop of our joint family home <Home…lolz..4 room like structure of home made masala with bricks in number of installments .., at God knows orientation and family architectect’s prowess of unimaginable skills clubbed into modern wonder of housing, But I will describe the architectural beauty of the houses of our community in some other blog in detail> in the evening. We usually used to go there when we dint have any option but to talk between ourselves, being strictly warned not to cross the boundry of our apartment or if we have some serious issue far serious than Left’s threat to pull out of govt. on Indo US nuke-deal, like how to get 20 paise for kites and manja or how to beat the next street Jerk who snatched our capital which was supposed to be invested in buying new STOCKS of kanche which we were master at < Mind u I have almost made fortunes out of those Kanches thanks to my prowess and shrwed cheating with other players of local market>

Luck wudn’t always smile on us especially I cud never expect of any capital from my smarter than me dad to invest in such risky enterprises, though we sometimes used to manage my uncle and Neetu’s papa’s innocuous and meek fathehood to exploit to raise the funds but he wasn’t a good turner of the money and had little foreign currency for us being a daily and seasonal worker. So most of the times we wud look at the flying kites of others and wud dream higher than any kite could ever go. Neetu was far better at imagining impossible than me. He would always talk about the short cuts of the capital market and always was in search of Aladdin’ magical Chirag. We were regular viewer of this fantastic serial on DD1. He always used to say-” Oye beta (that was his favourite way of addressing to his friends including his elder bro yani ki me.) If I get a magical carpet and that Chirag, I would fly and loot all these kites and run away. Also I would catch hold of that jerk’s neck ,fly high and leave him in midway to let him fall on the earth to death.” I was more of a tinsel town dreamer. i would reply looking at nowhere -” nahi yar, there is a world outside our Delhi Darwaja Bahar and this Ganga Temple. Did you see all those advertisements on TV. They wear jeans, eat different kind of Semes( I was not aware that those are called noodles not semes) drink coka cola, have beautiful girlfriends, and have cars yar. I would rather go out of this place,go to college and will travel in aeroplane.” Neetu never liked complicacies of Noodles or Coka Cola. Interestingly he never shown any interest in chicks unlike me.He still has no interest in chicks though I am sure he is not Gay and would happily settle with an ordinary town girl to remove her fatigue in night over her and sometimes frustration also.He was much contended with Amitabh’s fighting skills to round up all the biggies who molested and bullied us and with his kites. He was real angry young man and was till a few years ago. But after seeing my comforts being a calm suave guy , he has given it a thought and now he is more gentle than me.

These were the most tribal dreams I had in my childhood…Coke, jeans, movies like college, beautiful chicks, Seemes (Noodles) movie like parties in well lit restra. They came true as I went ahead.

For a reader of normal background they look ridiculously amusing and small but someone like me for who at one stage jeans was a dream,( I remeber in 5th class at returning at our rented single room no kitchen home , after playing all noon in June in Rajasthan and my face radiating a red dominating spectrum of heat waves, my mum told me that papa has bought a jeans, I couldn’t believe it and I dint untill I saw a faded yellowish Rough & Tough jeans clothe folded in our one of the dowry item of papa’s marriage box.I beheld it without strumming my eyelids for minutes untill my heart finally returned to Normal and when I returned from trance,I ran al around home saying jeans jeans) computer was like jadu ka chirag, Delhi was at other galaxy and chicks were for different planet species.

Since then I dreamt everything I could. getting my name in Merit list in secondary, getting a computer, going on a world tour, Paris and Venice ..everything came true. But sadly after each passing moments passion and flames about these dreams kept slowing down.

and in recent three years after seeing a lot of dreams come true, I hardly dreamt anything new. Infact at one stage it seemed like I dont wish any thing else ,nothing attracted me. Instead I lost my ever green passion about cricket and sports. Life began to rot like anything.

How can one live without dreams. And sadly my dreams here never synchronised with any of my other companions here. I dint feel like scoring good, dint feel like coming in competetion, apping, corporate dreams, money, cars..CEOs …everything failed to give me any drive.

But now a new dream is shaping in my mind. Its really far fetched and a really big one. I dont know if it will ever come true or even dreaming about is good or not but dreams are dreams , they dont like rational talks. God forgive me for dreaming if I am not worth it.

I wann a girl ….no no no..not for romance. I wann my own baby..and I wann her to be world No. 1 in women’s tennis. I wann see her as the first Indian girl to be the No1 in world at grass court. I have been dreaming about my progeny to be India’s finest athelete and world’s number 1. This is No Sania effect or any outer inspiration. In my all time dreams I always wanted to have a tennis court at my home. Its my biggest dream I ever imagined. But I have to lay grounds for it. I have to earn sufficient money to fulfill this dream of mine. I am willing to go out of the country to make it possible but I want my next generation to be sports star of the world. I wil live cutoff myself from my motherland to give my kins same european treatment to make them super athelete but I wann this dream to come to reality.

Is it a bigger dream than my imaginations???

Only time can tell. I have decided one more thing. I always told my mummy that I will marry any one but a sharp tongue Haryanvi gal. But Now I am gonna marry either a Haryanvi gal or a Punjabi gal …let her be a villager but she must be an athelete to improve the Genome.Even if she is 10 th fail but I wann a sports gal to marry who has stamina like my mummy. Mummy aapka beta Haryanvi ladkiyo ka fan ho gaya hai …

Amen.
